Health and safety regulations seem to be all around us nowadays and far from being a kind of ‘nanny state’ off-shoot, they are there for a very good reason. As the name suggests, in the UK our health and our safety are considered first and foremost.
The Health and Safety At Work Act 1974 required all people in the workplace to be kept safe and there have been updates and amendments to this law ever since. The use of asbestos, for instance, is now banned. There is also a set of regulations regarding electricity in the workplace. The COSHH or Control of Substances Hazardous to Health regulations were first introduced in 1999.
With that in mind we, at Technical Foam Services, are very keen to ensure our processes of manufacture of a wide range of foam rubber products are constantly and carefully monitored so that the health and the safety of our workers is guaranteed. The foam rubber we produce is used in the eventual manufacture of a plethora of products that are used to keep us safe.
In the workplace, rubber mats that are designed to be washable as well as non-slip and fireproof play an important part in ensuring safety.
Matting is also tested for its resistance to high voltage electrical shocks. However, health and safety extends to other areas as well as the more traditional workplace environment such as factories, shops and
offices.
Take, for example, children’s playgrounds. Typically, there will be several companies manufacturing rubber matting to cover the ground in the playground area. The matting can be available in the form of tiles to be fitted together and will be guaranteed to protect children from falls from height, which are bound to occur now and then when climbing frames, swings and so forth are being used by children.
