People of all ages get into their yoga and Pilates clothing to take part in the exercises. There are many different versions of the activities, with some representing a more physical workout and others focussing more on meditation and breathing.
One woman who has proved it is never too late to make the most of these exercises is Tao Porchon-Lynch. At the age of 93, she is still teaching people yoga. Recently, she was added to the Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest yoga instructor and she has no plans to stop any time soon.
The former actor, model and burlesque performer has been teaching professionally for 61 years, but it was only at the age of 73 that she decided to focus solely on this career.
Commenting on her passion for donning yoga clothes and leading the classes, she said: “I’m going to teach yoga until I can’t breathe anymore then I’ll just fly away to the next planet… I just, I love yoga, it brightens my day and makes everybody smile.”
Ms Porchon-Lynch did not even let a hip replacement stop her from taking the classes. About this, she remarked: “My doctor when he did the hip replacement said you won’t be able to do this, you won’t be able to do that. I said I don’t want to know what I won’t be able to do because I don’t believe it.
“So I sent him a photograph in lotus lifting off the ground and he called me the miracle woman. I said it’s no miracle, a miracle means only to see that which is inside of you. If it’s inside, I can do it.”
The example set by Ms Porchon-Lynch may well serve as an example to those who slip into their yoga or Pilates clothing to take part in the activities.
