London airport experiencing renaissance

Those who utilise London airport transfers, including Stansted taxi services, may be intrigued by developments taking place at a little known hub near to the capital. The Guardian reports that London Southend airport is experiencing a renaissance.

It officially reopened recently and now features a runway big enough to accommodate easyJet planes. It is running trips from south Essex to Spain and it has a new terminal building. As of the start of this month, easyJet started operating services to Malaga, Ibiza and Mallorca from the hub.

Also, a recent investment of £100 million was used to create a control tower.

The airport used to operate many flights and it claims to have once been Britain’s third largest airport before Stanstead was built and took over its business. Among the services it used to offer were flights on British Air Ferries that enabled consumers to take their cars with them on holiday to the continent.

Responding to the developments, director Alastair Welch said: “You start with a field, then add a railway station, a terminal building, train up a crew and then the planes start coming. Happy days!”

Meanwhile, commenting on the history of the hub and changes that have taken place there recently, the Guardian remarked: “After decades in the doldrums, with nothing more than a flying club, the odd cargo flight and aircraft coming in for repair, the airport was purchased by the firm of the legendary lorry magnate Eddie Stobart.”

Stobart plans to carry out between 20 and 30 daily flights this year, but eventually the firm intends to carry up to two million passengers annually and there will be further terminal extension this summer.

Those who utilise the hub may be keen to make use of London airport transfers, just like the current Stansted taxi services and so on that are on offer. These provisions can make getting to and from hubs much easier.
