Choosing CCTV systems is now both harder and easier than ever before. Technological advancements have meant that far more solutions will be affordable for far more people, in turn making the choice so wide that it is hard to understand which will be best.
Choosing the right system will therefore need a knowledge of the different types available and therefore the right choice for your own needs.
Firstly, you need to know exactly why you want cameras. If you want them to discourage potential intruders, then it may be that the actual quality and ability of the cameras is not wholly important. However, if you are in high risk areas, then ensuring faces can be seen clearly on the CCTV is likely to be very important.
You may also want to take into consideration the size of the cameras. If you want to use CCTV in a more clandestine way, then there are small cameras which will allow you to easily do this. Likewise, if you want people to know they are being watched, bigger will be better.
CCTV systems also come in many different modes of operation. You can have timer systems and motion sensors and the set up can also be wired or wireless. By choosing wireless, you will have far more flexibility when it comes to positioning and it will also ensure that you can move cameras as and when you like – again this choice will be very much dependant on how important it is to capture faces or simply act as a deterrent.
Finally, consider how many cameras you need. The way in which the data is recorded could offer you many different feeds or single feeds taken from one or multiple cameras. Ultimately, ensure you know your needs and that you don’t throw money away on something that is beyond what you need or something that won’t be as effective as you require.
