When you think about scrap car disposal, one thing that probably doesn’t spring to mind is the potential for what you are doing to be illegal. After all, keeping a car on the road when it is not safe to do so is deemed illegal, therefore how can getting rid of such a car ever be illegal in itself?
Well, there are many ways in which car scrappage can be illegal from simply disposing of the car in a way that is not environmentally friendly through to selling your car on to someone who can use the vehicle for illicit means.
The problem with knowing whether car scrappage is legal or not is the fact that very few scrap yards are likely to advertise exactly what will happen to your car. Not only may some sell on the cars and pretend that such cars are road worthy when they are not, but they may also use such cars for illegal robberies or other dealings which may well all lead back to you if you do not dispose of your car properly.
The same illegal operators may simply be selling on car parts, pocketing a huge amount of money selling on scrap metal or may simply be disposing of the cars without any regard for the environment.
When you are looking at scrap car disposal it is therefore important that you use a company that is licensed to do just that. You need to ensure they have the right accreditation and that they will issue you with the relevant DVLA certificate to say that your car has been disposed of in the correct manner. If you don’t get such proof and the car is sold on or used for illegal activities, you may well find you are liable for a great deal more than you bargained for.
