Before you choose a first aid course, you need to know exactly what your needs are. There are many different first aid courses available and many different reasons why you might wish to undertake training, and therefore the more precise the course can be for your own needs, the better.
For example, those who are involved in sports are going to need very different first aid knowledge to those who are working with children. However, you also need to know to what level you need to be trained to and also how many people need to be trained within your organisation.
Certain courses may also need you to have prior knowledge before the course starts. Should you need specific training it is wise to look at what information you may need to get before you even start your training in first aid. You should also find out what accreditations you need, as if you need to use your training in first aid abroad you may need to have a qualification that is internationally recognised and choose your course accordingly.
Choosing the right company is also important. Ensure that the company you choose offers first aid courses that are not oversubscribed and that are not reliant on hidden costs and charges – be sure to know how much the course costs all in, as you may find out further down the line that you need to buy your own books and materials for the course.
Finally, no matter what training in first aid you find you need, be sure that the course is reputable. There are many different courses available from many different companies and if you choose the wrong one you may find that the accreditation you get isn’t worth the cheap cardboard it’s printed on.
If you have a legal responsibility to have first aid knowledge, be sure you get the right knowledge from the right company.
