The Sussex town of Eastbourne is to play host to one of the country’s biggest powerboat races, it is been revealed. On July 14th and 15th, the Powerboat P1 roadshow will be staged there, the Eastbourne Herald reports.
Other places to feature on the roadshow’s itinerary are Plymouth, Hull, Cowes and Liverpool.
According to the event’s organisers, the relative affordability of the pursuit makes it perfect for newcomers eager to test such nautical endeavours. Indeed, a rising number of people are taking part in powerboat training to enable them to break into the discipline. Thankfully, there are many powerboat courses available for individuals to choose from.
The Eastbourne Herald pointed out that while it has not yet been confirmed, it is likely that the race will be featured on Sky Sports and the gathering may well attract thousands of people to the town, which is located between Brighton and Hastings.
About this, it stated: “That will no doubt be music to the ears of Eastbourne Borough Council and local businesses, who already benefit from large scale events like Airborne or the International Tennis Tournament.
“Eastbourne rakes in tens of millions of pounds from its flagship events each year and the addition of the powerboat contest is likely to swell those coffers even further.”
The publication also noted that compared to the “vast fortunes” often spent fine-tuning racing cars, powerboats are one of the more cost-effective high speed sports.
Meanwhile, it predicted that enthusiasts from all around the south-east of England will be attracted to the town’s seafront for the July race.
Of course, the people taking part in the competition will have been through powerboat training to ensure their skills are up-to-scratch, but they may not be the only ones who have benefited from the range of powerboat courses now available. Some of the spectators will probably have been involved in such programmes as well.
