It is not uncommon to hear tales of solar garden lights not being effective. Many people will assume that any lack of function is down to the many cloudy days we have and the relative lack of strong sunlight both during the winter months and the summer. However, in the majority of cases if the solar lights for garden that are being used do not end up being effective, it will actually simply be down to poor placement.
Solar powered lighting needs the sun’s rays to work properly. Even thick clouds won’t have too much of a detrimental effect on the ability for rays to reach the solar panels – however, bushes and buildings will.
When placing any solar lighting in your garden, first take the time to make sure you know which areas of the garden receive good sunlight throughout the day. Whilst a certain area may have a huge amount of light in the morning, by lunchtime shadows may well be cast over the solar panels, meaning that the panels will have had very little time to charge. Obviously the same goes for areas that only receive sunlight in the afternoon.
However, most gardens will have plenty of places that receive a good amount of sunlight all day long. On top of this, there are also panels that can be bought separately and placed in specific sunlight-heavy areas to ensure that even areas that see regular shade can have solar fairy lighting should you particularly want them there.
Placed in the right places, solar lighting will be an extremely effective way of creating a very sophisticated look in your garden, as well as improving the safety of your garden and pathways for your whole family. At the same time, it is a solution that will take very little hassle to install, and no cost at all to run.
