It is strange to think that the most obvious health and safety issues are actually the ones that can be most commonly overlooked. Even something as simple as staff health and safety or induction training can often be overlooked simply due to the fact that the current staff are so used to their surroundings that they feel that any dangers are too obvious to mention.
Training is a very common aspect of any business to get overlooked, with those in charge often feeling as though they will come across as condescending should they offer very rudimentary training. However, such oversights can easily lead to accidents, not only harming your staff, but also leaving you fully responsible.
Health and safety assessments are also very often overlooked, whilst control measures to deal with such assessments are even less likely to be carried out. Even within such risk assessments, certain areas are more likely to be overlooked than others and often these can be the most important ones to address.
Take electrical testing and inspection for example. Since electricity is something that is present in almost every single office space in the world, many people forget that electrical testing and inspection is something that needs to be addressed, instead of focussing on areas unique to that individual business.
Any areas, such as fixed wire testing, which are common to all of us, are likely to be the first areas to be overlooked. The things we live with day in and day out often get taken for granted and we can very quickly become completely oblivious to the danger that something such as electricity can pose. Therefore, whether you need to offer very simple training or simply need to ensure you undertake fixed wire testing, be sure that the most obvious things don’t pass you by.
