Movie props tend to be seen in specialist studios, where they are used to help create particular impressions on screen and stage. However, recently a large number of these objects arrived at a house in Sheffield.
According to a report in local paper the Star, a home in Ironside Crescent, Chapeltown was temporarily transformed into a film set as Damian and Nicola Morter got on with making their horror film, The Dying Breed.
Ms Morter, who co-runs production company Safehouse Pictures with her husband, asked to borrow her father, Derek Portman’s, property so that filming could take place there. The helpful dad allowed 150 actors and extras, along with all the necessary props, to descend on the residence.
The film is the last instalment in a trilogy of zombie movies made on a low budget.
Commenting on his decision to allow the filming to take place, Mr Portman remarked: “These are the things you have to do as a father! Nicola phoned up and said, ‘Dad, can we use your house?’.”
Meanwhile, in return for allowing all the people and movie props into his abode, the generous family man was allowed to play a cameo role in the film. About this part, he said: “Apparently my wife eats my intestines. It’s not a speaking part, but it should be fun.”
To foreworn his neighbours about the unusual sights they may witness while the filming was occurring, Mr Portman delivered leaflets to nearby homes. According to the 57-year-old, everyone was obliging and some even offered to help out with the movie.
All films make use of props to some extent, but horror films such as this one tend to rely on them to a much greater degree. Indeed, getting such items right can be one of the most difficult aspects of productions like this.
