When you have a brand new shower or bath that you’re proud of, you’ll want to keep it clean and looking like new. Sometimes the build up of mould, rust, or soap residue can leave showers unsightly, and hard to clean. Here are some tips for keeping showers and baths sparkling clean so they’ll feel new to you for much longer.
One of the easiest ways to keep your shower or bath clean is to keep it clean from day one. Keep the tub thoroughly drained, and when needed use a drain un-blocker product to remove hair and other residue from the drain.
If you have mould or mildew build up, you can clean your shower tiles, floor, shower door tracks, and even shower curtains using white distilled vinegar. Spray undiluted vinegar onto the doors and walls of the shower, or use a sponge to wipe down the walls. Be sure to rinse it off when you are done.
You can also use a solution of vinegar, bicarbonate of soda, and water to spray the shower walls, tiles, and floor. Let the solution sit for ten minutes, and then scrub down the walls. Again, remember to rinse the shower out when you are finished.
For really tough stains, rust, and other build up, try using a toilet cleaner to scrub out the shower. But be sure to thoroughly rinse the shower out when you are done to avoid people coming into contact with the harsh chemicals while showering.
If you like, you can also wax your shower walls once in a while to add some extra shine. Car wax will do nicely for this purpose. To avoid build up of soap in the shower, you can also use bottled shower gels and soaps instead of bars of soap which can leave stains and soap residue on your shower shelves.
