Pool tables and snooker tables are highly popular among people in the UK and they feature in a range of situations. As well as making entertaining and appealing additions to many homes around the country, they also appear in hotels, pubs, specialist clubs and other such establishments.
One building that is set to feature pool tables is a youth centre due to be created in Wales. Local groups have been campaigning for the development for some time and now Caerphilly Council has awarded funding to help, the South Wales Argus reports.
The local authority is to supply £40,674 towards the project, while volunteers and local residents have raised around £10,000 thanks to a series of fundraisers and help from businesses. As well as pool tables, the facility will include laptops and games and it is to be situated in the Risca church, which will be renovated.
Commenting on the reason for the initiative, volunteer Glyn Nicholls said: “We have had a lot of trouble with youngsters around the site because there is nowhere for them to go. If we get the club running it will help keep them off the streets and out of trouble.”
Currently, children and teenagers gather at the TLC cafe, which is a non-profit enterprise that was set up by the community to improve order on the streets. However, seven years since it was established, the venue has been outgrown and more space is needed.
As well as the new youth centre, local campaigners want to see the creation of a multi-use games area on nearby land as a place where sports can be played.Pool and snooker tables feature in many youth clubs and they often prove a hit among those who use the facilities. Indeed, there can be stiff competition to utilise the tables among enthusiasts of the activities.
