When something happens to your computer, it is often hard to know whether it is worth trying to get it repaired, or simply going out and getting something new. The problem is often how fast technology moves on; with Moore’s Law still going strong, the potential for computers to improve vastly over a short space of time is great. So whilst you may not pay too much for a repair, is it worth paying a small amount more and simply buying something more up to date?
There are many things to consider though before you make your decision. If your laptop is over 5 years old then the extra cost of buying a new computer might well be worth it, whereas if you have something younger, it may not be quite so beneficial forking out quite so much money.
The other thing to think about is what part needs replacing. Laptop screen repairs for instance are so easy that you can do them at home yourself meaning you can simply order laptop screens online at a much reduced price and make the repair in the comfort of your own home, and the whole thing won’t cost much at all. However, whilst laptop screens may be an easy and cheap replacement, other parts aren’t quite so easy and cheap to change, so ensure you look into how much a repair would cost you and whether you could do it yourself.
Whilst laptop screen repairs will set you back much less than a new computer, you may simply not have the money to buy a new laptop, and therefore if another part of the computer needs repairing that is more expensive you may not have the luxury of going out to buy a new laptop. So, ultimately it all depends on your financial situation and how much the repairs might cost.
