Mailboxes found in Macys stores around the United States will soon be helping add a little Christmas cheer to children and parents alike.
Each mail box will be placed in stores to allow children to post their letters to Santa Claus and it is hoped this will increase levels of ‘Christmas spirit’.
For the past three years the mailboxes to Santa Claus have been very popular with families visiting the stores and this year the store staff hope a trip to the mail box at the Believe campaign will make it on to everyone’s Christmas list.
The Believe campaign not only has a mail box in the store, it also sees a letter writing station for children to write their letters to Mr Claus himself.
In addition to this being a very exciting time for children, it is also a time to think of less fortunate children and families. The department store owners have also pledged to donate $1.00 for every letter posted to go towards the Make a Wish Foundation.
The Make a Wish Foundation raises money for children suffering from life threatening conditions and illnesses. It helps make their lives happier and strives to give them an additional bit of hope and strength at a very difficult time.
Speaking to website, examiner.com a Macys spokesperson said: “ Not only is your child writing their annual wish-filled letter to Santa, they are also helping other children have wishes granted.
“Macys elevates the idea of ‘season of giving’ to a whole new level.”
The whole campaign was inspired by a very famous letter written by eight-year-old Virginia O’Hanlon in 1891 when she wrote a letter to The New York Sun. In this note, she asked the editor if Santa Claus really existed to which he replied with the infamous words, “Yes, Virginia there is a Santa Claus.”
