There are many different corporate bonding activities available these days, but few are as dramatic and exhilarating as climbing Kilimanjaro. This snow-capped mountain, which is located in Tanzania and rises an impressive 5,895 metres above sea level, provides a trekking experience with a difference.
Staff members at Long Eaton firm Questmark are to spend seven days scaling the mountain for charity, the Derby Telegraph reports.
Managing director of the organisation Sam McMaster is to be joined by his brother Brian along with colleagues Rebecca Beswick, Jodie Bellamy and Helen Cruse. Together, they hope to raise £20,000 for their Kilimanjaro climb and they will give the money to The Adolescent and Children’s Trust.
The organisation helps to provide foster placements and adoptive families for children in care.
Meanwhile, out 20 employees at Questmark, 18 were keen to take part and Mr McMaster noted it was very difficult to select who would go.
Talking about the Kilimanjaro climb itself, he added: “I think it’s right to have a degree of anxiety about this trip but we all want to do the best we can, have some fun and, most importantly, raise as much more as we can.
“I think there are about five or six routes to the top of the mountain and we are taking a medium-level one. We will have a bit of coaching before we go and want to have a practice walk in the Peak District.”
He went on to say that preparing for the trip should help to boost his personal health. About this, he remarked: “I’m beyond 50 and this may just give me a good degree of fitness.”
The co-workers will also head off on a trip to the Alps in November to help them adjust to being at altitude, before climbing Kilimanjaro itself next February.
