The humble garden shed is often left alone and neglected during the winter months, but now with spring just around the corner it’s a good time to take a look at our sheds and see if it’s time to invest in a new one ready for summer. Dunster House offer a wide range of products for the outdoor life, everything from garden offices to climbing frames and summer houses, so if you are in the market for a new shed they will have something for you.
Once you have chosen your new shed, have a think about why your old shed got into such a poor state that it needed replacing. Perhaps the windows had been broken or were cracked, the door hinges rusted and the lower sections of the timber rotted by damp. All of these things can be treated, so why not get off to a good start with your new shed from Dunster House by making sure that your new purchase lasts a lot longer?
Many sheds are supplied with a base coat, usually water based. The factory coat is usually a primer, and you should apply a good quality wood treatment either prior to or during assembly, and then do it once a year after that. It’s best to choose a good quality, spirit based preservative which will provide protection for longer. Bear in mind that water based treatments can become less effective after a few months of being weathered away.
It’s advisable to wear old clothing or overalls during timber treatment, as the product you are using may splash back over you, and gloves should be worn as spirit based treatment can irritate the skin.
If you follow these basic guidelines after you have chosen from the Dunster House range of sheds, you won’t have to worry about buying a new shed for many years to come.
