The dangers of Chlamydia

Over recent years we have seen an increase in Chlamydia infections, in particular amongst young adults. Despite the consequences of unprotected sex being highlighted via sex education, television programmes and government messages, the number of people falling victim to Chlamydia is still astonishingly high.

Whilst there are many STD clinics around to offer help, advice and treatment for Chlamydia, prevention is always better than cure and whilst scare tactics are not always the best approach, by enforcing the dangers of this infection to those having unprotected sex, we can hopefully reduce the number of people infected.

As with most infections, the earlier Chlamydia is caught the less severe the consequences are. As Chlamydia is a bacterial infection it gets into various areas of the body and can cause serious infections in the joints and the eyes. The appendix is also at risk, which of course can be extremely dangerous if not detected.

The most common areas for infection are the rectum, urethra and cervix in females. For males the dangers can cause infection in the kidneys due to issues with urination, and if not treated quickly enough can also lead to infertility. For women the dangers are extremely high and can cause severe problems which will not only affect short term, but for the rest of their lives. Pelvic Inflammatory disease is a serious condition which can cause multiple problems in pregnancy and in severe cases, Chlamydia can also make women infertile.

Whilst prevention is the ideal it is unfortunate that victims of Chlamydia are still increasing. At samedaydoctor.co.uk we offer people of all ages the opportunity to visit a private doctor at one of our many clinics across the country. Visiting a STD clinic can be a nerve racking experience for many which is why we offer confidentiality and experienced doctors and aim to catch Chlamydia as early as possible
